This course consists of common medical illnesses emergencies in a pre-hospital setting. It provides the basic knowledge of pathophysiology, the clinical symptoms and treatment. This clinical information is very useful for assessing and managing patient with the related diseases.

This course consolidates the acquisition of basic skills in patient assessment for the future EMS provider. As a continuum of introduction in theoretical knowledge of these skills in earlier semester, this course provides guided hands-on sessions on various patient assessment skills including Scene Size-up, Primary Assessment, Patient History and Secondary Assessment. Attainment of competency in these skills is expected at the end of this training.

This module will touch on the principles of pharmacology in pre-hospital emergencies setting. Case study is presented as clinical scenarios to develop problem-solving skills using the same methods applied in real pre-hospital settings. Topics will include principles of pharmacology, names, classes and general sources of drugs, general management by a paramedic, legal aspects and risk assessment, drug administration: safety and procedures; medication calculation, intravenous fluid and administrations; problem oriented pharmacology, and lastly special considerations and procedures.
