Public Health is a core pre-clinical discipline that prepares the student for further learning in medical and clinical sciences.  This course links with various basic disciplines of community medicine and public health.  Students should be able to appreciate the concepts of health and disease and includes the principles of intervention in solving health problems at individual, family and community level.  It can be divided into 5 major areas, namely:

1. Concepts and principles of public health and epidemiology

2. Introduction to health systems and sustainable development goals

3. Selected public health practices and programmes including primary health care, family health, nutrition, food safety & quality and health promotion

4. Occupational and environmental health

5. Prevention and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases
