This module consists of discussions that integrate the knowledge of basic sciences of gastrointestinal system and the clinical aspect. This course discusses the gross and microanatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology and clinical aspects of the whole alimentary system.  It improves the ability of the student to explain the underlying pathophysiology on the basis of understanding of the integrated normal physiology. Students will learn the regulation of GIT secretions, motility, digestion and absorption. A basic understanding of the developmental aspects of the gastrointestinal system is also expected with emphasis on common congenital abnormalities.  This course prepares student to appreciate common clinical disorders such as jaundice, malabsorption, intestinal obstruction, peptic ulcer disease & reflux oesophagitis. Students will also acquire knowledge on principles of drug therapy. Core knowledge will also be discussed in problem-based learning (PBL) sessions. Clinical skill training involves theoretical and hands on practice on history taking and physical examination of gastrointestinal system.
