This course begins with the students studying the chemical components of the cell such as carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, nucleic acids and inorganic compounds. The fundamentals of cell structure and organelles, the mechanism of transport across membrane, classification and functions of enzymes, cell division, DNA replication, protein synthesis and cellular respiration. An introduction to the origin of life, biodiversity, ecology and disease, genetics, population genetics, evolution, mutations and basic modern genetic technology.
